Our Story

Genesis of Inspiration

In spring 2023, a group of Muslim friends from Haas School of Business found themselves reflecting on the stair steps of the Berkeley masjid after Tahajud prayers during Ramadan. This moment of tranquility sparked an idea that would soon grow into something significant

Rapid Growth

The event's popularity soared, with 170 sign-ups from students, alumni, faculty, and even the Dean. This overwhelming interest underscored the community's desire for connection and celebration, pushing the friends to think bigger

Unity and Support

The Iftar night was a moment of unity and affirmation. The attendance of the Dean and the broad support from the community highlighted the need for a formal group that would encapsulate these values and experiences

Mission and Registration

Recognizing the underrepresentation of Muslims in academia and the corporate world, the newly formed club registered in fall 2023 with a mission to support Muslim students in achieving academic and business success, offering a community and mentorship

The First Iftar

Inspired by a serene night, the friends decided to host an Iftar potluck on a residential rooftop. What began as a small gathering quickly evolved as an alum's generous donation turned it into a grand event, catching the administration's support

Finding Our Name

As the event took shape, the pressing question of an identity was answered naturally with "Muslims of Haas Iftar." This name, born out of necessity, resonated deeply and became our emblem

Formalizing the Vision

The positive feedback and evident need for representation propelled the group to establish a formal club on campus. By summer 2023, the informal gathering had transformed into an official organization

A Journey of Faith and Community

From a tranquil dawn at the Berkeley masjid to forming Muslims of Haas, the journey symbolizes the power of community, faith, and a shared vision. It’s a story of growth, inspiration, and the impact of coming together for a common cause
